KawanKawan Media is an Indonesian production company based in Jakarta. Collaborating with young talents, KawanKawan Media has produced numbers of feature, short, and documentary films with national and international accolades such as On the Origin of Fear (directed by Bayu Prihantoro Filemon) which was premiered in Venice Orizzonti 2016 and Ballad of Blood and two White Buckets (directed by Yosep Anggi Noen) which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival 2018. In 2016, KawanKawan Media produced the feature film Solo,Solitude (directed by Yosep Anggi Noen), premiered in Locarno’s Filmmakers of the Present. The film received 54,000 local admissions in Indonesia and recorded as the country’s first arthouse box office. In 2019, the company produced The Science of Fictions (directed by Yosep Anggi Noen) which premiered in Locarno’s main competition and received the Special Mention award.

 

KawanKawan Media working as co-producer with SEA filmmaker such as “Whether the Weather is Fine” (directed by Carlo Francisco Manatad) from Philippines and “Stone Turtle” directed (directed by Ming Jin Woo) from Malaysia, which premiered in Locarno International Film Festival 2021 and 2022.

Their latest work, titled "Autobiography" directed by Makbul Mubarak, is a co-production involving six countries (Singapore, the Philippines, France, Germany, Poland, and Qatar). It premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and won the International Critics' Award for Best Film in the Orizzonti section in 2022. Additionally, "Tiger Stripes," directed by Amanda Nell Eu from Malaysia, received the Grand Prize from the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.
